Chiesa di Santa Maria degli Angeli

Founded in the 12th century with its vast and famous monastery, it was rebuilt in the 1500s. on the right-hand wall can be seen “Madonna in Gloria” by Jacopo Palma the Younger from the end of the 16th century. A Renaissance piece which has long been under restoration, on the lunette is the “Annunciation”, perhaps sculpted by Antonio Rizzo. There are also works by Salviati and Pietro Damiani. The precious tapestries which once decorated the walls can now be seen in the Civic Glass Museum in Murano. At one time the church held the tomb of Sebastiano Venier, the victor of Lepanto, which is now in SS. Giovanni e Paolo.
